Meet our therapists:
Dr. David Hovey, Psy.D., LPC

At Greater Hartford Counseling Center, we approach individual, marriage and family counseling from a unique perspective. I personally incorporate my skills as a psychotherapist, inspirational speaker, and as a life coach to make each session fresh and organic.
My colleagues and I have a deep commitment to my client’s holistic well-being and approach them with a deep understanding. My process of therapy creates a container of safety, energy for change, and includes practical steps for finding a new direction in your life. My approach to counseling supports you by clearing mental roadblocks and helps you end cycles of self-defeating behavior. I hope to bring you to a higher level of self-understanding. The intention of our work together is to help you get more out of your life.
My philosophy of therapy is grounded in the belief that we each possess an inner wisdom that can lead us to heal. I have deep empathy and respect for those beginning therapy. I believe in the healing power of laughter and humor can be used to offset the inherent intensity of the therapeutic process.
In addition, my work with clients integrates their hopes and spirituality. I believe that every situation—and every life—can be enhanced.
You hold the key to healing to yourself. Let me help you look inside and meet the issues you’re struggling with head-on. Take back your power and take back your life. The good news is you don’t have to go it alone. Working together, we can tackle your issues and develop strategies to help you lead a richer and more fulfilling life.

Jim Angelo, LMSW
My own life experiences inspired me to become a therapist to help others. My perspective allows me to be empathetic to my clients’ situation, while at the same time, direct the work we do together. Part of this involves looking at your whole picture—mind, body, and spirit—addressing not just your vulnerabilities, but your strengths and learning how to use them to your best advantage. You hold the key to healing yourself and are your own best resource. I can help you reveal your inner strength.
Whether you’re wrestling with addiction and recovery, dealing with trauma, managing anger, or in the throes of grief; I can walk with you through it.
I won’t pretend to know what you’re feeling, but I also won’t hesitate to say I understand what you’re going through. My 14 years of personal and professional knowledge have brought me to where I am today.
