Couples Counseling

Are you feeling disconnected from your partner or spouse?

Do you wonder if your relationship will ever be the same as it was?

Couples counseling can be a great help to you and your relationship!

Couples Counseling Dr. David Hovey and AssociatesAt Greater Hartford Counseling Center, we recognize relationships can be hard work. When we begin couples counseling with you and your partner, we start with the perspective that, even in the midst of challenges, something is good and right in your relationship. We strongly believe in approaching your struggles from a strength-based foundation.

In relationship counseling, we work to help you explore and understand the barriers that may have developed between you, keeping you from experiencing the relationship you want. Often, these arise from things like:

  • Communication issues
  • Financial stresses
  • Obstacles to intimacy
  • Parenting and children
  • Career challenges
  • Extended family issues and demands
  • Blended family challenges
  • Divorce or separation
  • Addictions
  • Infidelity
  • Breech of trust

Sometimes it can be as simple as one or both of you having a sense of a disconnection, or that something is just not right.

When you find yourself in that place, it’s a great time to consider relationship counseling because, if it’s early on, your concerns can be quickly resolved and your relationship strengthened, as a result. On the other hand, if the your bond has been damaged by something more extreme, or a lot of time has passed with a lack of communication and understanding, couples counseling can help you sort through each other’s pain and discomfort, helping you reconnect with each other possibly even more effectively than you have in the past.

One of the wonderful things about couple’s therapy is that it provides the chance for you and your partner to develop new skills that ultimately could enhance and strengthen your bond. Some examples include:

  • Learning how to focus on the positives in the relationship
  • Identifying and understanding the unproductive patterns and cycles
  • Add the passion that you once had for each other back into the relationship
  • Creating proactive and positive change and while dismissing the “good enough” attitude of the past
